Once the site of one of America’s biggest copper mines, Holden Village has been converted into a Lutheran retreat. A forty mile ferry boat ride up Lake Chelan then another dozen miles up winding switchbacks in a school bus lead to the townsite. The historic buildings are tucked into an isolated fold of the North Cascades where snowfall is abundant. After communal breakfast with Holden residents we ski down the street and head up to explore the rugged surroundings.
