In reply to Dave K. Yeah, trailhead camping is a no-no but we waited until after ten to roll in for that reason. I bivied in tall grass nearby and there must've been others doing the same because we weren't the only ones stuffing sleeping bags by headlamp light in the morning.

Nice post…heading up there tomorrow…quick question ( you may not see this in time) …did you sleep at the trailhead? Have heard about rangers rousting people sleeping in their cars.

Cool. Either way, the Upper X is really fun.

Leave your tent behind, leave half your rack behind, and just do the route light, in a day. Start at 2am and you miss the thunderstorms………usually.

In reply to Derek. Just the upper. I'd be psyched to climb the lower pitches. We would have still been up high for a feisty electrical storm if we'd been on the same timeline and sent the lower half the other day though.
